Why Jiangxi

Jiangsu is located along the eastern coast of China and with a highly developed economy and many ancient historic sites; it has become a fascinating province for international as well as Chinese tourists.

Geography

Jiangsu province covers an area of 102 600 square km, occupying 1.06% of the total land mass in the Peoples Republic of China. The topography in Jiangsu is composed almost entirely of flatlands, taking up approximately 70 000 km. The remaining land is covered in either mountain ranges (10000 km) or large bodies of water (20000 km). Jiangsu’s main flatlands are divided throughout the province, the main ones being: Sunan (South Jiangsu), Jianghuai (the Yangtze River and Huai River), Huanghuai (the Yellow River and Huai River) and Eastern Seashore. Jiangsu province is also home to Tai Lake and Hongze Lake, which are among the top five freshwater lakes in China.

Climate

Jiangxi has a subtropical monsoon-type climate with wet summer and dry autumn, cloudy winter and cold spring. The average annual temperature is between 16ºC and 20 ºC (60.8 ºF and 68 ºF), the coldest month, January, is 3ºC-9ºC (37.4 ºF and 48.2 ºF), while the hottest, July, is 27ºC-31ºC (80.6 ºF and 87.8 ºF) with a highest temperature in the Poyanghu Basin. While the average annual rainfall is between 1,200 mm and 1,900 mm, it has intermittent drizzles in spring and rainstorms in summer but much less rainfall in autumn.

History

Jiangxi was under the states of Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period. In 733 A.D. Jiangnan Dao (an ancient administrative division) was divided into two parts, the eastern Dao and western Dao. The western Dao was called Jiangxi (west of the Yangtze River) for short, hence its name. It was named Jiangxi province in Qing Dynasty (1368-1644), which has remain ever since. The Jinggang Mountains were the first rural revolutionary base area set up by the late Chairman Mao Zedong in 1927; Nanchang, a heroic city where the " August 1st" Uprising took place in 1927, the day is regarded as the founding of People's Liberation Army (PLA); Ruijin, the site for the central work-peasant democratic government during the Second Revolutionary War; and Anyuan, one of the birthplace of the Chinese worker's movement led by Mao Zedong and Liu Shaoqi.
 

Population and Nationalities

The population of Jiangxi is approximately 39.66 million. 99.73% of that is Han Chinese, predominantly Gan and Hakka. Ganzhou, Jiangxi's largest city, has an especially large number of Hakka. Ethnic minorities include She and Zhuang.
Jiangxi and Henan both have the most unbalanced gender ratios of all Chinese provinces. Based on a 2009 British Medical Journal study, the ratio is over 140 boys for every 100 girls in the 1-4 age group.
 

Economy

Rice is the dominant crop in Jiangxi. Cash crops commonly grown include cotton and rapeseed. Jiangxi is the leading producer of kumquats in China, particularly Suichuan County.

Jiangxi is rich in mineral resources, leading the provinces of China in deposits of copper, tungsten, gold, silver, uranium, thorium, tantalum, niobium, among others. Noted centers of mining include Dexing (copper) and Dayu County (tungsten). 

Jiangxi is a rather poor province when compared to its neighboring provinces. It is located in extreme proximity to some of the richest provinces of China (Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian), which are sometimes blamed for taking away talent and capital from Jiangxi. 

Jiangxi has the lowest wages and third lowest property prices in all of China. As of 2016 Jiangxi's nominal GDP was CNY 1.84 trillion or USD 276.48 billion, and a per capita of CNY 40,400 or USD 6,082.
